
Firearms acquiring no “WP” proof over the receiver but have affixed barrels with “WP” proof mark, Along with the “Oval P” would signify that though it is an more mature receiver, the barrel was changed after 1905 by an individual outside the Winchester restore shop. (Besides verification by other barrel markings)

I picked up on an more mature matter/put up where others which have mentioned that a barrel obtaining the “Oval P” could have been equipped by Winchester:

I assumed there was a span of your time where it absolutely was the barrel and never the receiver, but most likely obtained that blended up While using the 1890 data.
